With Dr. L. K. Maheshwari ,Vice Chancellor, BITS Pilani gracing the inaugural ceremony, BITS Embryo was launched in BITS Pilani, Goa Campus on January 20th. The first lecture was delivered by Dr. Jayan Ramankutty, founding member, BITSAA and one of the most successful BITSian serial entrepreneur from the university, ENTREPRENEURSHIP: Food For Thought. The objective of the Embryo remains the same as before.
Right in the third year of its establishment, exposure to cutting edge technology trends through plans like Embryo will surely inculcate a vibe of confidence in students of this budding campus. The Embryo team at Goa Campus is looking forward to arrange a series of lectures by plenty of alumni working in diverse areas like academics, research, business etc. all over the world so that maximum number of students would be able to reap optimum advantage. Also, there will be an opportunity for interested students to work on certain research areas in guidance of alumni with decent expertise and then this video conferencing which started with help of skype and webcam will provide them an experience of lifetime.

A quiz challenge Blind Spot was conducted successfully by EMBRYO club. It consisted of a preliminary round followed by five rounds based on topics like music, movies, sports, history, science, current affairs etc. The quiz saw a wonderful response by Bitsian junta. 30 teams each of two turned up for participation out of which 5 cleared the prelims. The quiz lasted for 2 hours and in the end two teams turned out to be prize winners. The winning teams were:
- Ashok Prasad K.(2004A7PS186) , Anand Iyer (2004A8PS262)
- Anne Sarada (2005C5PS631) , Kanthamneni Shilpa (2005A4PS314)
Cash prizes and certificates have been announced for the winners as well as runners up team.
The quiz emerged out a success, thanks to the active participation of the club volunteers and the help extended by Prof. Rahul Banerjee, Stueti and Chaitanya. The quiz was volunteered by Sapan, Rahul, Aman, Suyash, Prankur, Sharvil, Kamiya, Neelabh, Karan, Ankur, Mahek, Jyoti, Ankita and Bhushan.

After a very successful 1st Semester which saw a total 25 lectures across 7 disciplines from 6 time-zones, BITS Embryo is ready to crank it up a notch in its second semester. Embryo has been launched in Goa and very soon all lectures shall be beamed simultaneously in Pilani as well as Goa.Embryo lectures will be structured in some of the courses being offered this semester. Seminar series on Entrepreneurship and Leadership will be integrated with two MBA courses. Also two ME courses and an elective course in Biology group will see lectures from eminent Alumni.
Highlights of last semester
- Varied disciplines like CS/IS, Mechanical, Bio Science, Chemical, EEE covered
- General lectures like MBA application process, MS/PhD
- Student participation: Avg. 25-30, peak ~150
- Faculty participation: Avg. 2 per lecture (for technical lectures)
- Feedback received through a survey amongst the speakers and the students
- EmbryoClub setup and functioning on Campus
- Article on BITS Embryo in 'The Hindu'
- Prof. Rahul Banerjee interviewed on All India Radio regarding BITS Embryo , amongst others.
The long term goal of Embryo still remains the same: Connect alumni very closely to the students and faculty through videoconferencing, and we hope this interaction will lead to sharing of knowledge and experience, and collaborative research projects.
